Steve Russell, also known as "RANDOM" from the early 90's
R&B group Troop, has re-emerged as one of the most sought-after
songwriter/producers in the industry today. He's one of the main writers
for one the hottest R&B production teams in the industry, The
Underdogs. He's written and produced on albums which have
accumulated sells of more than 35 million sales and several top ten hits.
He's written songs for the likes of Mario, B2K, Chris Brown, Ruben
Studdard, Tyrese, Omarion, Frankie J, Marques Houston, 702, 3LW,
Glenn Lewis, Luke & Q, B5, Troop, LSG, Avant, Monica, KeKe Wyatt,
Donnel Jones, Charlie Wilson and ATL just to name a few. In 1990 as the
lead singer of the R&B group Troop, Steve melted hearts singing the
ballad "All I Do Is Think Of You" which hit Number One on the Hot
R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks chart. The group released several
albums, including its 1988 self-titled debut Troop, 1990's Attitude the
group's first multi-platinum seller which featured the hits, "Spread My
Wings" and "All I Do Is Think Of You", 1992's Deepa CD which featured
the Group's last no.1 record "Sweet November" written and produced by
BABYFACE, 1994's Lil' Sumpin' Sumpin' and 1998's Mayday was to
follow. Steven wrote and co-produced B2K's "Gots Ta Be" that peaked at
Number 13 on Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks
chart."That's the joint that put me back on the radar." say's Steven.
Though Russell penned songs on Troop projects, he said he loves
giving his sound to new artist and writing for other acts. His style of song
writting, the "Ghetto Ballads", have influenced the way people write
songs for the past ten years. "I'm just sticking to what God blessed me
with." I got a lot more songs coming out". "I wanna give the world
everything i got before it's over for me." He's currently heard singing
several songs in this year's blockbuster hit "DREAMGIRLS" as well as his
first cameo since "NEW JACK CITY". In 2008 Steven Russell releases his
